Golf Day 2018

Ruimsig — Ruimsig Golf Club was packed with 144 enthusiastic players on 31 May, all ready to swing their clubs for a good cause in the Caxton Golf Challenge. Although the day started out fairly sunny, it soon became quite challenging, as the weather took a turn for the worst, and the 36 four-balls had to battle from green to green, braving the rain and icy wind. Some players decided to rather not chance getting sick and retired to the warmth of the clubhouse, while the other teams continued playing, some donning raincoats and hats, while others played with umbrellas in one hand. One of the golfers was asked whether he really loved the game so much that not even the rain would keep him off the greens, to which he simply said, “Today, it’s not about loving the game that much, or wanting to play in the rain – it’s all about showing your support for charity.” Despite all the challenges on the day, the golfers had a lot of fun, and the treats received from each sponsor at the various holes, definitely helped to keep them motivated. The day’s activities were concluded with a delicious dinner and prize-giving ceremony.

Not even the cold, wet weather could dampen their enthusiasm, and they kept on playing, despite the challenges. Some players tried to stay dry by donning raincoats and hats, while others played with an umbrella in one hand. The day was enjoyed by all, and everyone agreed that it was a successful event.

Ruimsig —At the end of the successful Caxton Golf Challenge, everyone gathered in the clubhouse for a delicious dinner and prize-giving.
Prizes were awarded for ‘nearest to the pin’, ‘golfer with the voice that carried best’, ‘longest drive’ (women’s and men’s), and ‘longest day’, to name a few.
Danie Roets and Piet Bester won the Martin’s Funeral competition prize, Danie Meyer won the putting competition, Ernst Göpper won the JAC Motors ‘Ball in a Bottle’ competition and Banie Schoeman was the golfer with the voice that carried best.
Elize Smit won the prize for the women’s longest drive on the 10th hole while Danie Meyer won the men’s category on the 9th hole. Gerhard Coetzee was awarded the prize for the golfer who spent the longest day on the course.
Darius and Sunette Prinsloo of the Wes-Rand Lewenssentrum bagged 23rd place, Jaco Koekemoer and Blake Linder of Caxton Local Media came in 12th and Minette Göpper was the overall women’s winner.
Sean Avis and Johann Campher were crowned as the champions with 52 points. The runners-up were Stiaan Smit and Armand Nel, with 51 points.
