Home Affairs Menlyn reports high number of uncollected IDs
In an attempt to smoothen the collection process for citizens and the upcoming elections, extended hours for operating have been scheduled for the next three Saturdays, says management.

Home Affairs Menlyn says it has accumulated a large number of uncollected IDs since it opened its doors at Menlyn Park shopping centre on March 6.
“This is worrying. We want to reduce our uncollected documents leading up to the 2024 elections,” said Menlyn office manager Harold Mathebula.
Mathebula said to smoothen the process, operating hours would be extended.
“We are going to open for three Saturdays from July 29 – August 12,” he said.
“Our operating hours will be from 08:00-13:00 for collections only.
“This is to enable clients who cannot collect their documents during the week to visit the office and take advantage of this convenient service.”
The home affairs office at Menlyn Park shopping centre offers smart IDs and passport application and collection services.
Minister of Home Affairs Dr Aaron Motsoaledi previously said service is by appointment only and walk-ins are only admitted to booking an appointment.
He said Menlyn Home Affairs was expected to relieve pressure from high-volume offices such as Byron’s Place in the CBD, Mamelodi and Centurion.

“It is a beneficial situation for all,” Motsoaledi said.
Motsoaledi said Home Affairs had reached an agreement with the centre that his department would not pay rent for five years.
Home Affairs spokesperson Siya Qoza said the office was a fulfilment of a commitment to make home affairs services more accessible to people.
