Roads closed for State of the Capital Address
Several roads will be closed in the city on Thursday due to the State of the Capital Address, the Tshwane metro council said.
As preparation for the State of the Capital Address taking place at City Hall on Thursday, several roads in the city will be temporarily closed on the day, the Tshwane metro council said on Wednesday.
A parade of the metro police at 07:00 will affect traffic in the morning in the CBD. The following routes will be affected: · Starting at the corner of Sisulu and Helen Joseph streets, the parade will move west in Pretorius Street, passing Lilian Ngoyi Street and turning left at Thabo Sehume Street · From Thabo Sehume Street, the parade will move south, passing Francis Baard, Nana Sita and Visagie streets, and will turn right into Minnaar Street · The parade will then turn right into Paul Kruger Street for its inspection by the executive mayor in front of City Hall.
“As soon as the parade has moved on, traffic will resume normally. Paul Kruger Street between Visagie and Minnaar streets will be closed from 07:00 to 14:00,” said the council.
As part of the build-up to the address, the executive mayor has called on all citizens to make contributions and express their expectations. “I am pleased by the amount of support, comments and suggestions I have received from all residents who expressed their wishes and their commands, thus making invaluable contributions to the re-making of a new capital. Each and every comment has been reviewed and most are considered in the speech,” said Mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa.
About 1 000 people are expected to attend the address, including councillors, ambassadors, members of the media and special guests such as the Public Protector, advocate Thuli Madonsela, and speaker of parliament, Max Sisulu.
