More cable thieves caught

Two more cable thieves caught. One was tied up and the other found drunk

Two more cable thieves were arrested this weekend when residents reported them to the Wierdabrug Sector 1 CPF.

CPF chairperson Braam Rossouw said it seemed as if everyone has jumped in to drive out cable thieves.

“We have two emergency numbers for the public to report anything. We received an SMS that read: ‘Please help.”

Rossouw said they called the number immediately.

“Two employees at a nearby church caught a cable thief and tied him up. They caught him in a nearby field among blue gum trees where he was busy burning the plastic off the cables he had in his possession.”

The second cable thief was caught on Sunday morning in Hennopspark industrial area.

Rossouw said they received a phone call about a man who was in the possession of cables.

He said when CPF with the Wierdabrug police, Copwatch, Hi-Risk Security and Monitor Net arrived on the scene, the man appeared to be sleeping under the influence of alcohol.

“Brand-new rolls of CCTV cables were found among empty alcohol bottles in a cart that was used by the man.”

Rossouw said was is still unclear where he got hold of the CCTV cables.

The Wierdabrug police could not confirm the arrests yet.
