Villieria police station number one in Gauteng

Station beats out 141 other police stations throughout the province to win award.

Villieria police station has been named the best in Gauteng.

The station beat 141 other police stations throughout the province during the Gauteng community safety service excellence awards initiated by MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane.

Six stations were nominated for the award and out of these the Villiera station came out tops.

The award includes the station’s performance for its involvement in their community as well as with co-operation with security companies, metro police and other stakeholders.

Station commander Colonel Semakaleng Tindeka recently told Rekord: “We are overjoyed to be named the top police station in the province.

“I think a great contributing factor to our success is the discipline of the police officers at our station. We are also very active and involved in the community.”

Tindeka said she applied strict discipline at the station.

“It was how I was raised and I firmly believe it is a very big contributor to our success,” she said.

Representatives from the MEC’s office made five unannounced visits to the “finalist” police stations to make further assessments.

“When I heard that our police station was the winner, I was very shocked. I never realised the surprise visits were for the awards,” said Tindeka.

“I could not help but be overwhelmed with emotion.”

Tindeka thanked those involved in helping the station with all its projects and crime-prevention operations during the past year.

She also encouraged her members and the public to work together.

Almost 32 years.

Do you have a certain way or plan of action of commanding the station?

I cannot put more emphasis on the importance of co-operation, not only between police officials but also police and community members. It is our mission at the station to ensure the community not only feels safe but is safe.

Tell us about your policing career

Before starting at the Villieria precinct, I worked at police stations in the East Rand for three decades. I have moved from Dawn Park police station to Katlehong where I spent most of 20 years.
