North councillor celebrates birthday with the community

A Soshanguve ward councillor has celebrated his birthday by giving back to his community.
Ward 37 councillor Sephiwe Montlha slaughtered a cow as he celebrated his 41st birthday with the elderly of his ward.
He handed out food parcels to the residents, especially the elderly, who came in their numbers to his extension 4 home to wish him well on his special day on Sunday.
The elderly residents were collected by taxis from all sections of ward 37 including extensions 4, 5, 3, Marry Me, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 19, 18A-B, Rosslyn Garden and 14 in Soshanguve south.
He handed out were rice, maize meal, canned food, tea bags, blankets and t-shirts to the 270 pensioners who attended the party.
In the morning, the councillor assembled the pensioners in a tent for entertainment, and a word of encouragement by a local church pastor.
Every attendee was given a loaf of bread and fruit with their meal.
The event was also supported by members of Montlha’s political party and other local ward councillors and local gospel artist Thina Bodigelo provided entertainment.
“Ward 37 has never experienced this. He has put smiles on sad faces and encouraged the lost souls,” said a grateful resident, Grace Ngobeni.
Another resident Elisa Kekana expressed her gratitude.
“It was important for me to share this special day in my life with the elderly. Often we forget them and make them feel neglected. We have to make them feel special and show them that we do not only remember them when we need their votes. These are very important people in the society,” said Montlha of his “the biggest birthday ever in Sosh”.
He said senior citizens had contributed a lot, taking care of the community’s children and grandchildren.
“They deserve to be happy and celebrate with me on my big day,” he said.
“May is important to me…I was born on 7 May, I was married on 3 May, 5 May is my last born child Onkgopotse’s birthday and I got elected into office as a councillor on 11 May,” said Montlha.
