Waltloo bus lane still incomplete
Smash-and-grabbers apparently had a field day targeting motorists during the traffic gridlock.
The Waltloo business and commuters have grown frustrated by the traffic congestion as a result of the roadworks in the area.
Chairperson of the Waltloo Industrialists Association, Poerie van Wyk said the traffic congestion as a result of the bus lane and mixed traffic lanes construction in the area was horrendous and had adversely impacted on suppliers to the industrial hub.
“We [are] having big troubles here on a daily basis trying to drive in and drive out… at any given point there is a congestion cars and delays up to an hour.”
He said the situation worsened when there was an accident and the smash-and-grabbers had a field day targeting motorists during the gridlock.

He said the congestion and other service delivery failures were forcing business out of the area.
He said this was compounded by a complete lack of regard for traffic laws as taxi drivers ignored the laws without any law enforcement in sight.
“We were told that the roadworks would end in July and that still has not happened – it is still the same, no change.”
Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said construction was scheduled for completion by 29 November.
He said Petroleum Road and Love Street had been upgraded for use as a detour during the construction of the bus lanes.

He said the Masakhane bridge was complete but for the sidewalk.
