UPDATE: Two held for fatal shooting in the north
The suspects fled the scene with the man’s firearm, but were later traced following a tip-off by community members.
Two men were arrested this week for the fatal shooting of a man after he stopped at a Soshanguve shop to buy a bread and cool drinks last Friday afternoon.
Police spokesperson Captain Stephen Maluleka said Rietgat police swiftly closed the net on the alleged suspects, who allegedly shot and killed Jasper Gerber Adriaan (39), in Soshanguve block R.
“According to an eyewitness, the victim was walking out of a shop carrying energy drinks and was ambushed by the two suspects as he approached his vehicle,” said Maluleka.
Adriaan was shot twice in the upper body, but he also managed to shoot one of the suspects who limped back to their getaway vehicle.

He later died at a local clinic.
The suspects fled the scene with the man’s firearm in a yellow Chevrolet Spark, but were later traced following a tip-off by community members.
“The two men were arrested at Temba clinic where they were trying to get medical attention,” said Maluleka.
Rietgat station commander Lieutenant-Colonel Mboneni Molaudzi commended SAPS members and community members for their tip-off that led to the arrest of the suspects.
The men are expected to appear in the Soshanguve magistrate’s court soon.

A family friend, Cindy Huyser, told Rekord that Jasper was on his way home in Onderstepoort when the attack happened.
Adriaan was in Soshanguve for business, according to Huyser.
“He was well familiar with the area, as he used to work there as a security guard.”
“Although nothing will ever bring Jasper back, I am relieved that those responsible for his death were caught,” said Huyser.
“My heart bleeds for his young wife. To lose a husband and father of your child is the worst thing that can happen to one so young.”
