UPDATE: Happiness reigns as north toddler’s tumour removed
Teagan’s successful surgery follows after he was diagnosed with neuroblastoma cancer in October last year.
Happiness was the order of the day when the cancerous tumour of a two-year-old was successfully removed in an 11-hour long operation on Tuesday.
“It was a huge success,” Teagan van Wyk’s mother Maggie said.
The elated mother said the whole tumour was removed despite the risks and dangers which were involved.
“He’s going to take a while to recover but I’m so grateful,” she said.
“We’re looking forward to him making a full recovery.”

Maggie said her son was in a stable condition, even though doctors said they would keep him sedated on Wednesday.

She further commended the hospital staff who assisted in the successful tumour removal.
“He’s still going to have chemo for a while,” Maggie said.
She said her son was able to get surgery so soon after his diagnosis because the cancer was diagnosed at an early stage.
“He started with chemo in November,” she said.
The speedy treatment led to his tumour shrinking to half of its size after seven sessions of chemotherapy.
