One dies, another injured in Moot collision

The accident happened on the corner of Steve Biko Road and Adcock Street around 19:06 on Saturday.

One person died and another was injured in a collision between a bakkie and motorcycle in the Moot.

The accident happened on the corner of Steve Biko Road and Adcock Street around 19:06 on Saturday, said Pretoria Moot CPF chairperson Elsabe van Staden.

She said the passenger on the motorcycle died of her injuries on the scene.

The biker was treated on the scene before being transported to Eugene Marais hospital.

“It is still unclear what the degree of his injuries were,” Van Staden said.

She said the driver of the bakkie left the scene shortly after the accident.

Due to the seriousness of the accident, Van Staden said CPF members had to close the road in both directions.

She said the road was closed for over four hours and was reopened again around 11:30.

Police, along with their forensic and video unit, CPF members and paramedics were on the scene.

She thanked everyone who assisted including Lynette van der Merwe, a CPF member and moderator for Pretoria Crime Prevention forum.

“She also assisted getting trauma councillors to the scene because the people were very traumatised,” she said.

Willie Cloete, the CPF patrol coordinator, also handled the scene “ very professionally”, Van Staden said.

“Everyone assisted where they could,” she said.

The cause of the accident will be investigated.

The police had not commented at the time of going to press.
