North security guard on mission to teach kids dance, drama

Mnisi is employed as a security guard but works as a dance choreographer in his spare time.

Tshenolo Mnisi (26) is proof that hard work pays off. Born and bred in block BB Soshanguve, Mnisi is employed as a security guard but works as a dance choreographer in his spare time.

Mnisi commenced with his dance career at a tender age of 12 and has kept it moving throughout.

The Soshanguve High School alumni said his passion had prompted him to start his own dance group known as Chillibite Entertainment.

Speaking about his inspiration, the 26-year-old said in his childhood he watched several music videos by the popular star, Theo Kgosinkwe who is part of a musical group, Mafikizolo.

“I used to watch the music video of his band back then so in 2016, while I was working at Ponkana funeral parlour I decided to take a day off [when] I heard that people were shooting a music video at Soshanguve liquid zone. I went there and joined them it was a world-known DJ Fortee. From there, we exchanged numbers and started doing live performances with him in different clubs around Pretoria,” he said.

Later in 2016, Mnisi scored himself yet another big gig, but this time with house music sensationalist, Lady Zamar.

“Lady Zamar invited me to her music video. I danced on her song called ‘Love is blin’ and people started loving me when they saw me on MTV Base,” he said.

Mnisi said he had also worked with the likes of DJ Maphorisa, Trademark, McKenzie, Muungu Africa.

Not only has his dance career blossomed, his acting skills have also been recognised by big names in the country. He featured in a SA potato advertisement.

Mnisi was also fortunate to secure a gig with Ferguson Films’ popular soapie, The Queen, as an extra.

Despite working hard, he gives credit to his family who has shown love and support for his craft.

“I thank the support of my mom and my girlfriend, Lebogang Serithi. I also thank my fans for believing in my dream of dancing,” he said.

Mnisi says he would love to travel to different cities teaching children dance and drama.
