Warning of possible floods around Pretoria

The hotspots drivers should avoid include low-water bridges in the north, west of Pretoria and in Centurion.

The Tshwane emergency services department has warned motorists to be careful with the current rainfall across parts of Pretoria.

“The hotspots drivers should avoid include the low-water bridges of the Hennops River in Centurion, the Apies River near Hercules and in Haakdoring and Lephengville in Hammanskraal,” said emergency services spokesperson Charles Mabaso.

“Residents in low-lying areas with poor drainage systems may experience flooding. In instances where a yard and house are flooded, residents should assist by allowing emergency services personnel to create pathways for the water to flow away, even if it means making a hole in a perimeter wall.”

“We have so far not received any calls for assistance related to possible flooding.”

Mabaso said the department was monitoring the hotspots and was on high alert for possible incidents.
