PPE suppliers urged to register on provincial database
The database will allow suppliers to indicate what items they are able to provide to help fight the spread of Covid-19.

The Gauteng health department has created a database for suppliers of personal protective equipment (PPE).
The database will allow suppliers to indicate to the department what items they are able to provide, according to department spokesperson Kwara Kekana.
He urged suppliers to refer to National Treasury instruction note 8 of 2019/20 to familiarise themselves with prices.
“As a department we remain committed to empowering local manufacturers, BEE-compliant business and businesses owned by designated groups (women, youth, township-based, people with disabilities),” he said.
“This forms part of an important vehicle to contribute towards rebuilding the provincial economy.”
The main categories include respiratory PPE such as face and surgical masks, hand washing items such as sanitisers, goggle units and visors, disposable gowns, boots and plastic aprons.
Swabs, thermometers and ventilators as well as meals for quarantine sites were also included.
“Interested parties can visit covid19.gauteng.gov.za and click on the PPE supplier menu to access the electronic form,” Kekana said.
“It is important that all fields are completed.”
Earlier this month the department called on the public as well as organisations to donate PPE and ventilators.
“PPE such as masks and gloves play an important role in minimising exposure to the spread of infections, while ventilators assist the breathing process when the virus has damaged the lungs.”
Thousands of healthcare workers were working around the clock daily and over weekends to trace people who came into contact with persons who tested positive for Covid-19.
