Family of north man found dead wants answers

Daughter of the deceased Tshepiso Teffo said her father left home on 27 May to go the bank. That was the last time they saw him.

The family of a Soshanguve man whose body was found in a veld in Makapanstad want police to question a taxi driver who claimed he knew where the man was. William Teffo’s body was found by herdsmen who called the police to the scene. Police spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said Teffo was found with burn wounds on his feet and hands.

“The man was identified by the family as William Teffo of Soshanguve. He was reported missing at the Rietgat police station. He was found in the veld in the policing area of Makapanstad on 23 June. No one has been arrested at this stage and investigation into the matter continues.”

Daughter of the deceased Tshepiso Teffo said her father left home on 27 May to go the bank. That was the last time they saw him.

“We called him because my mother was worried but his phone just rang. Later that night, we opened a case of a missing person. The police came the following day and we went to the bank to stop his bank cards. We looked for him everywhere with no luck until police got his bank statements. They were very suspicious about transactions on his accounts.”

“Money had been withdrawn from different ATMs, two R180 airtime vouchers were bought, car parts, car tyres were bought, although he did not have a car. His account had R22 000 in it but now it only has R7 200.”

Teffo said on the day her father’s body was found by police, a taxi driver who stays near them came to tell them he knew where her father was.

“He told us he knew where my father was and that we were soon going to find him but he did not go into details. He said he tried to send people to tell us where my father was twice and that he could help us find him but he has decided to come to tell us himself. Those people never came to us. He told us he knew my father was missing for a month and what was surprising to us is that he came on the day the police found the body. We wish the police can question this person because I feel he is not telling the whole story, there’s something that he knows.”

Teffo said the family thought the police were dragging their feet in her father’s case.

“When spoke to them they told us they were busy with other cases and we were not the only ones. ”

“We had been leaving contact numbers in mortuaries in case the body was found. We were then alerted on 8 July, by forensics at Dr George Mukhari hospital that the body had been found. He will be laid to rest on Tuesday 14 July.”

She said her father’s death has left a big void in the family especially to her mother.
