Ancelize van der Kooi from Kilnerpark Security said it was important for residents to mark their gate motors or to write down the serial number.
“This could help the police to pinpoint any suspect caught with gate motors under suspicious circumstances,” she said.
She said when reporting the theft of a gate motor, residents should provide police with the following info: date, time and place; what kind of fencing is around the premises; how entry was gained into the yard; any dogs on-premises; was gate motor visible from the street; was gate motor bolted to a device; make of gate motor and whether there is an insurance company.
Pretoria Moot police station commander Colonel Hlengeni Giben Mashaba appealed to the community at large, including ‘our young adults’ to assist in the fight against these sort of crimes.
“They can do this by continuing to be the eyes and ears of the Moot police,” Mashaba said.
“Together as one we stand, divided we fall.”
