Three Fire Engines, one water tank and one command vehicle and a Tshwane ambulance were called out to extinguish the fire after a large section of the hardware store burned down to the ground.

“The team from Philip Nel Park fire station was first to arrive and found the building well alight,” Hendricks said.

He said the emergency services were deployed to the call-out around 18:45 on Friday evening.

Hendricks said the sales department containing paint, carpets and other items burned.

Hendricks said while the team got to work extinguishing the fire, further backup was requested from neighbouring stations.

The fire was finally under control around 21.45 last night.

“No injuries to either personnel or public were reported and the cause of the fire is being investigated.”
