220 suspects arrested during Okae Molao in the north
“Should they come across us, know that your days are numbered. We will make sure that we arrest you.”
Police and various law enforcement held yet another operation under the O Kae Molao banner on Thursday in Soshanguve.
The operation saw 220 suspects arrested for various crimes.
District police commission major general Hilda Mohajane said the operation started on Wednesday evening with detectives looking for several wanted suspects.
“The suspects were arrested for crimes such as murder, hijacking, rape, assault, and street robberies. Those suspects will be appearing in different courts tomorrow to make sure they face the full might of the law.”
Mahanjana said the reason they chose Soshanguve was that they have realised that crime has picked up in the area.
She said they were also enforcing compliance of the disaster management act.
“We started at a roadblock in N4 and proceeded to home affairs in Soshanguve to check compliance. The reason we chose home affairs is that when we pass, we see that they have the longest queues. So we had to make sure that while people are queuing, there is compliance,” she said.
“When we arrived we realised there is no compliance to social distancing. We assisted them to make sure that there is compliance and we hope that they will maintain what we have taught them.
“We also proceeded to the post office because we know that when it is the time for people to get the R350, the queues are always very long but when we arrived at the post office, there was compliance.”
She said police have also been receiving information that there are people that continue to sell alcohol despite the alcohol ban announced by the president last month.
“Some are tavern owners. I want to warn those people that are continuing to sell liquor illegally or transporting liquor illegally that should they come across us, your days are numbered. We will make sure that we arrest you.
“We also want to appreciate those communities that continue to comply with the regulation.”
Mohajane warned community members about the spikes in robberies that police have been experiencing in the Soshanguve area.
“These people want money and they want it by force. When you go to the bank to withdraw money and realise that someone is following you, do not go home, rather drive to a police station.
“Try also to identify the people or the car that might be following you. We want to urge people to be safe as we are experiencing a lot of robberies.”
