Ward 2 councillor promises to bring back ‘dignity of the place’

The new ward councillor says he will work hard to eradicate drugs in the area.

Pretoria North residents headed to the polls to elect a new councillor on Wednesday, April 24.

Quentin Meyer (42) was officially elected as the new ward 2 councillor as a proportional representative councillor filling the position, left vacant when the the former councillor resigned.

The DA retained the ward, as the community chose to put their trust in Meyer.

It is the first time Meyer is a ward councillor and has vowed to bring back lost hope to Pretoria North residents.

“I was born in Dorandia and I’ve been living in Pretoria North almost my whole life,” said Meyer.

“I’ve always wanted to serve people from a young age. My dream was to be a politician and I want to engage, fix problems and make things better for the community.

I believe that engaging more with the community will bring them closer and I can get to solve their problems faster.”

Meyer said his modus operandi is to handle things with respect and dignity.

Ward 2 has been plagued by some serious service delivery issues and is a largely residential area with a huge sense of community.

Meyer said those issues have to be tackled so that the region can be a great place to live in once again.

“Ward 2 used to be a nice place to be in because of its tidiness and fresh environment and that’s what I am planning to do, bring back the dignity of this place,” he said.

He said the job would be a challenge but has promised the community to work hard.

Potholes, water leaks and power outages due to cable theft are problems in many parts of the ward and difficult to resolve.

Meyer said water leaks are a result of old infrastructure pipes in the ward.

“Community members are intervening in helping us keep the ward clean.

We don’t have to dwell much there because it’s simple: tidy after yourself and do not litter everywhere,” he said.

Meyer also wants to use his time to focus on eradicating drugs in the central part of the ward, which he says contributes to crime in the area.

“I’m not a police officer but through the help of community members, surely drugs can be erased in ward 2.

Let’s not protect these criminals/drug dealers, let’s expose them so they can face the might of the law,” said Meyer.

Meyer said he is available on the phone any time as long as it is service delivery-related.

“Let’s be realistic, you can’t call me at midnight for fun, the communication is open at any time but it should be something concerning the needs of the community.”

He said residents can get in contact with him on 082 304 8985.

According to the IEC, the DA increased its majority to 94.50% this election.

Other parties that contested the ward were the ANC and the EFF.
