Multi-vehicle crash on Solomon Mahlangu Drive leaves victim severely injured

An accident involving three motor vehicles and a truck resulted in severe injuries for one victim while three others were transported to nearby hospitals with minor to moderate injuries.

One person was critically injured while three others sustained minor to moderate injuries in a motor vehicle accident on Solomon Mahlangu Drive in Pretoria East on Wednesday, May 22.

Volunteer emergency medical response unit spokesperson Casper Visser said they responded to a call before 11:00 about a serious motor vehicle accident on Solomon Mahlangu.

He said upon arrival, their team discovered that three motor vehicles and a truck had collided at high speed.

“One patient sustained critical injuries and was rapidly transported by a private ambulance to a nearby hospital,” said Visser.

He said three other patients were found to have sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.

Visser said they were taken to hospital by an ambulance and a private car.

“No one was trapped in the vehicle and only a seat belt had to be cut to free [from] one person.”

He said the three victims were transported to Kloof and Pretoria east hospitals and there were no fatalities on the scene.

Visser added that SAPS were on the scene to investigate the cause of the accident.
