Man shot dead in Garsfontein

Suspicious vehicle flees from police.

A man was shot dead by police in Glenwood Road in Garsfontein this afternoon.

According to Debby Henderson, a trauma councillor on the scene, two men in a blue BMW tried to evade patroling police who allegedly asked the men to pull over. When the men attempted to flee, the police opened fire and the driver was fatally shot.

“Allegedly the two men refused to stop when a Garsfontein patrol vehicle asked them to pull over in Glenwood Road. The men then allegedly turned into Fairie Glen Road but was denied access at the boom gates. They then  reversed and slammed into a passing grey Yaris and turned backed into Glenwood Road. They again ignored police orders to pull over and tried to flee from the police, hence police officers opened fire and the driver was shot,” she told Rekord.

The second man was taken into custody to Garsfontein police station for further questioning.

No other persons were harmed during the incident. The driver of the Yaris was treated for shock at the scene.
