‘Hijacker’ killed in Centurion

Motorist returns fire when men allegedly tried to hijack him after his car broke down.

A suspected hijacker was killed on the N14 off-ramp towards the R55 in Centurion when he and several other men allegedly tried to hijack a stranded motorist.

The incident took place at around 19:30 when the motorist’s car broke down in the area, according to Monitor Net security spokesperson JP Le Roux.

“As the motorist waited for roadside assistance, two to four males tried to hijack him,” said Le Roux.

“They reportedly pointed a firearm at him and the man, who was a licensed firearm owner, returned fire and fatally shot one suspect.”

Le Roux said an illegal firearm was recovered on the injured suspect, who later succumbed to his wound.

The other suspects managed to get away.

Police could not yet confirm the incident.
