Man killed, boy (10) injured as car rolls in the north

'The man was found to have sustained fatal injuries and was declared deceased on the scene'.

A man was killed and a 10-year old boy injured when the car they were driving in overturned in Roodeplaat, north of Pretoria, on Sunday afternoon.

Netcare 911 emergency service spokesperson Shawn Herbst said the paramedics got a call at 12:34.

“Reports from the scene indicate that the driver of a light motor vehicle with one minor occupant lost control on a sand road resulting in a roll-over,” he said.

“Netcare 911 paramedics assessed the driver who was found to have sustained fatal injuries and was declared deceased on the scene.”

He said the boy sustained moderate injuries and was treated on the scene.

“Once stabilised he was transported by private ambulance to hospital.”

Authorities could not confirm whether or not the man and the minor were related.

In a separate incident, a car caught fire after colliding with another vehicle at the intersection of Sefako Makgatho Drive and Breed Street in Montana, on Sunday afternoon.

Medi-Edge emergency care said in a statement three patients sustained minor injuries but refused to be transported to hospital.

“The city of Tshwane fire and rescue services quickly extinguished the fire,” the statement read.
