Female learners get the 411 on teen pregnancy

Yung Heirz hosted an event at the Ngoako Ramahlodi Sports Complex for young girls from rural towns

IN partnership with the Polokwane Municipality, Yung Heirz hosted an event at the Ngoako Ramahlodi Sports Complex last Saturday for young girls from rural towns and townships.

The theme of the event was: Yung Women of the Future.

Girls from five secondary schools in Seshego attended the event.

Reabetswe Molapo, Yung Heirz founder and director said the initiative was inspired by the high rate of teenage pregnancy in schools. “We realised many young girls are promiscuous and we launched this programme to change the mindset of young girls,” she said.

Asnate Mojapelo, a psychologist who took part in the event praised the initiative.

She said she was delighted to see young girls doing their best to help others, and gave Polokwane Municipality a thumbs-up for their part in the event.

“A person needs one person to look up to, to progress in life. The initiative will encourage young girls to focus on their studies and to build a solid foundation for a better future,” said Asnate.

She encouraged Yung Heirz to host more events of this nature to keep young girls on the right track.

Capricorn FM presenter, Hlekani Shikwambana said she supported the event as her radio show was for women, presented by women.

“I had a son when I was 20 years old and this was a bad experience for me. I saw it as vital to share the ordeal with learners so that they won’t practise unsafe sex,” she said.

Teachers praised the initiative and said the organisation was looking forward to the next event that will take place in September.
