New medical practice doing well

Limpopo ER Medical Practice, a 24-hour emergency- and general medical practice, opened on June 1 at Mediclinic Limpopo.
Head of the practice, Dr Victor Loftie-Eaton, said the practice was doing well. “We specialise in trauma medicine. If a person is having a stroke or heart attack, we can help him,” Loftie-Eaton explained.
“We also help children that are dehydrated and other people that are acutely ill and need to be in hospital. Our priority is emergency patients.”
He said the unit also had two resuscitation beds and excellent support from local specialists. Laboratories and X-ray machines were also available to them, he added.
“The practice has two sections; first there is the emergency unit and then there is the general practice. Patients who are not experiencing emergencies but need medical attention can also visit the practice,” he said.
The emergency room was available for use by other doctors and not only those who were part of the practice, he advised.
“Our service is good and everyone that come to see us compliment us.”
All the doctors working at the practice are required to have certain emergency qualifications like advanced cardiac life support; paediatric advanced life support and advanced trauma life support, and there would always be a doctor on duty at the practice, he said. “There are beds for 11 patients and all the equipment in the emergency unit is brand new,” he added.
“We are also training nursing staff to handle trauma cases efficiently,”
Loftie-Eaton is on duty every day from 07:00 to 17:00, while alternating after hour doctors are doctors Michael Bosman, Flippie van As, Mark Melville, Raul Calokechi, Christa Carlisle, Henning du Toit, Mariki Durand, Vivian Meintjies, Veronica Stopforth, Pieter Vermeulen, Anne-Marie Vermeulen, John Mashao, Ernest Mashala, Wikus Erasmus, Johan Hattingh and JJ Kruger.
