Husky, pekingese return to care of their rightful owner

POLOKWANE – Last week Review reported on two dogs, a husky and pekingese, which were found chained on the top floor of a partially-built house in Bendor.
Acting on a tip-off, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) removed the dogs from the premises. “The husky, as well as a pekingese, were taken from the building and are currently in our care. They are in very good condition, but the circumstances they lived in were terrible,” said Anton du Bruyn, SPCA Polokwane manager.
Du Bruyn said the man who said he was the owner of the dogs told him that the dogs were strays and that he took them in and cared for them.
“He came to the SPCA and answered our questions. We told him if he could find another location for the dogs, we would give them back to him. He provided us with an alternative location that we inspected and found in order,” Du Bruyn explained.
According to Du Bruyn, the man said he took the dogs to the vet several times and that the husky had been shot when he found him.
“He said the pekingese lost her eye shortly after arriving at his house. We could find no fault with his care of the animals and will do regular inspections at the new premises.”
Du Bruyn also said when SPCA employees went to the house in Bendor to collect the two animals, they were not chained up and could roam the room they were found in freely, but the room was covered in animal feces.
