Taking hands to launch road safety campaign
THE Mogalakwena Municipality in cooperation with Mogalakwena Mine launched the 2015 Easter Road Safety campaign last Thursday to help raise road safety awareness over the Easter holiday.
MOKOPANE – THE Mogalakwena Municipality in cooperation with Mogalakwena Mine launched the 2015 Easter Road Safety campaign last Thursday to help raise road safety awareness over the Easter holiday.
According to Malesela Selokela, office of the municipal manager, divisional head of communication, Thalefi Mashamaite, mayor, was joined in the launch of the campaign by the Mogalakwena Mine’s safety team, members of the executive council, Mahwelereng police cluster commander Dikeledi Mangena, Simon Kekana, Waterberg department of transport district traffic manager, and Humphrey Mosehla, Mogalakwena municipal traffic divisional superintendent and key transport stakeholder.
During the launch of the campaign Mashamaite called upon all road users to take personal responsibility for their safety on the roads as they travel to various destinations over the Easter weekend.
“The campaign’s main aim was to remind drivers to stay alert and drive safely during this unusually busy time on the road,” says Frans Marais, manager of safety, health and environment at the Mogalakwena Mine.
“The mine’s heads of departments were also present to support the campaign and show that Anglo American Platinum truly lives by its guiding values such as safety, accountability, care and respect for others, and collaboration with concerned stakeholders.” Marais commented.
The details of the 2015 Easter road safety campaign were explained by Mashamaite as follows:
“The local and provincial traffic officials and the members of the police will be heightening their crime fighting efforts with the launch of Operation Paseka, this safety campaign has a duel focus of fighting opportunistic crime and road safety during this period.
“Operation Paseka is a national Operation, aimed at ensuring that everyone are and feels safe during the Easter holidays.”
Mashamaite advised motorists to exercise patience in heavy traffic and to be alert at all times.
Traffic department officials controlled the road block for the safety of the other teams and the police focused on searching for stolen goods.
Mogalakwena Mine encouraged safe driving by handing out leaflets, licence holders and bottled water with Mashamaite and the executive council.
