Mayor: Some won’t have water

GIYANI – GREATER Giyani mayor Pat Hlungwani told the community of Dzumeri village that even though the water supply programme, launched by the president Jacob Zuma last year, was in full swing, certain areas still face a lack of water due to lack of infrastructure.
“Apart from the fact that the programme has improved the area of coverage to include areas which previously did not receive water, we must understand that there are some areas that are yet to be covered due to technicalities,” he said.
These “technicalities” include a lack of pipelines to distribute water to certain areas or old infrastructure which he said prevented water reaching some communities.
He said the municipality was, however, working towards correcting the situation to ensure that water be provided to all the communities in the area.
“Government is working on fixing this problem so that in the end, every community will have access to water,” he added.
Hlungwani spoke during a public participation event held at Dzumeri village on Friday, which was held to highlight service progress in the area.
He also officiated the sod turning event for the construction of a sports centre and mini taxi rank. Commenting on these projects, Hosi Dzumeri said a taxi rank would make things easier for commuters since the area was a central point where people meet and do their business.
He added the municipality should build toilets in the area to ensure proper sanitation for the many commuters.
