Africans must reconnect

LIMPOPO – NOMDENI Chengeta, the founding director of Africa Reconnect said we should all be against attacks on our African brothers and sisters.
She spoke during a press conference which was held at Limpopo Guest Manor last Wednesday to launch the Africa Reconnect Conference, Awards and Exhibition 2015.
Themed: We are all African, say no to xenophobia and afrophobia, the conference, awards and exhibition will be held at the Jack Botes Hall from May 13 to 14.
During the press conference, Chengeta assured guests from African states that their safety was a priority for the organising team.
“Guests will be escorted from the airport to their various overnight accommodation and from there to the venue at all times,” said Chengeta.
She said Africa Reconnect was a platform created for women who had made a remarkable contribution to the growth and development of African nations.
“Some of these women have been appreciated and celebrated while some have been completely forgotten. While it is true that women in Africa and in most parts of the world still face discrimination and marginalisation, as well as non-recognition and disrespect, many face these challenges with great perseverance and strength. They are creating history daily, changing the status quo.”
Chengeta said the conference, awards and exhibition would give women the opportunity to learn from others on how to face and overcome challenges, and would also outline strategies for positive recognition that would lead to accelerate change in Africa.
“The conference will give women the forum to share ideas and opinions and the opportunity to form alliances and bilateral and multilateral relationships that will bring change to their various spheres of influence. The second annual celebration has received commitment from a number of African countries,” she said
