UniLim fee increase: fake letter circulating

A fraudulent letter about the University of Limpopo increasing fees by 7% for the 2017 academic year is currently circulating on social media.

POLOKWANE – The letter, which has a fake signature of the University of Limpopo Vice-chancellor, Mahlo Mokgalong states: “Regardless of the #FeesMustFall campaign, the university management together with the students’ leadership of South African Students Congress (SASCO) have decided and agreed to increase the university fees by at least 7% for 2017 academic year. Bear in mind that the 7% increment will not affect the NSFAS beneficiaries. As a result, only those who are able to pay their own fees will be affected.”

University of Limpopo students are expected to report back to the campus tomorrow to resume with their academic activities on Wednesday. The University of Limpopo Marketing and Communications Executive Director, Kgalema Mohuba confirmed the letter was not from the university management. “This letter is from one of the political parties. Academic activities will resume on Wednesday and the rest shall follow,” explained Mohuba.

The University of Limpopo management requested students to leave campus two weeks ago after the #FeesMustFall protest saw university property damaged.
