Wishes of three humble hearts granted

Reach for a Dream reached out to three children with life-threatening illnesses in the city

POLOKWANE – Reach for a Dream is a non-profit organisation which helps children with life-threatening illnesses realise their dreams and the organisation recently visited the Pietersburg Provincial Hospital Tough Living With Cancer (TLC) ward.

Here they helped three young patients’ dreams come true when Reach for a Dream Branch Manager, Ronell Davel visited the city.

“As part of our initiative we visit each child and get three dreams from them which we then do our best to fulfill. The children from Limpopo have different types of dreams than children from Gauteng, here they mostly ask for clothing,” she said.

The children whose dreams were realised this month are Khanimamba Mghonyama (7), Lehlogonolo Tselapedi (12) and Wavhudi Sigwavhulimo (8).

Khanimamba, who has acute Myelois Leukemia, was treated to a shopping spree at Mall of the North where she had the opportunity to go on an escalator for the first time in her life. Mercurius Motors provided a car for her and her grandma to travel to the mall and as she loves chicken, she was spoilt to a meal at Nando’s as well. Her other wishes were dolls and toys.

Lehlogonolo, who suffers from Osteosarcoma and lost his left leg due to the cancer, also loves chicken and was treated to a meal at Wimpy where he received his own laptop.

Lehlogonolo Tselapedi (12) admires his brand new laptop.

His other dreams are to go to Durban and enjoy his time at a theme park and swim in the sea or get a game console.

Wavhudi is diagnosed with tetralogy of fallot and he wanted a game console, bicycle or clothing. Tetralogy of fallot defects cause oxygen-poor blood to flow out of the heart and into the rest of the body.

“Without the help of the public or donations, we will not be able to help these children realise their dreams. We greatly appreciate all the help we receive which enables us to make a difference in their lives,” Ronell said.

Lehlogonolo was speechless after opening his present and his mother, Constance, expressed her happiness at her son’s joy. “I just want to see my child happy and it is a heartwarming experience.”
