Water consumers in the city, who rely on the Olifantspoort Plant to supply water to the city’s reservoirs, may face shortages on Friday.
Disree Manyane, Stakeholder Relations Officer in the Communications and Marketing Unit of Polokwane Municipality, says in a media release that the municipality received a notice from Lepelle Northern Water (LNW) that maintenance is scheduled to take place on the Olifantspoort Scheme from 06:00 to 20:00.
The reason for the shut-off is to replace switchgear on the electricity panel at the plant and all areas of supply from the Olifantspoort Scheme will be affected since the plant will be off during that period.”
According to Manyane, LNW will ensure that reservoirs levels are increased before the action is being implemented, to minimise the impact of water shortages.
Residents and business are advised to use water sparingly during the period leading to the event, during and beyond,” Manyane says and advises the public to prepare and take measures against the risks of not having adequate water.
