Secunda road claims another life
An accident on the Secunda road claimed another life.
STANDERTON – A man died on the Secunda road last week when he tried to avoid an accident.
According to Lt Fanie Nhlabathi, spokesman of Standerton Police, an eyewitness confirmed that a car overtook another vehicle coming from Standerton.
A truck driver tried to avoid a collision and the vehicle overturned.
The driver died subsequently and traffic backed up on both sides of the road as the trailer of the truck, as well as the load, were lying in the road.
The Standerton Police, Fire Brigade and Ambulance Services were quick on the scene. The forensic team took photos and measurements of the accident.
A distraught colleague was in a state of shock as he and the deceased were travelling together from Secunda on their way to Durban.
According to him, the driver was a family man and loved by all.
Because of insurance reasons, a tow-away from Johannesburg was used, which made it difficult to keep the scene safe.
The public adhered to the traffic officials and travelled at a slow pace to clear the road and keep the traffic flowing.
It was a busy time on the road as people working in Secunda, but staying in Standerton, were on their way home and some took a detour to the Bethal road to reach home faster.
Apparently the motorist that could have caused the accident, has not yet come forward.
The Standerton Police opened a case of culpable homicide.
