Boy with lump goes for CT scan in Witbank

Mother defaults treatment of boy with a lump on back of his head.

eMBALENHLE – Philani Mahlangu (5) will undergo a computed tomography (CT) scan at the Witbank Hospital on 24 February for assessment regarding the big fluid-filled lump on the back of his head.

In the Ridge Times of 7 February, “Give Philani back his life”, Ms Lina Mashiyane (57), his grandmother, asked for the help of a doctor who can operate on the lump.

Philani went for a check-up with his grandmother and the Ridge Times at the Trichardt Clinic on Friday, 7 February where a doctor checked him.

He was referred to the Evander Hospital for further check-ups and a blood test.

It was established that Philani’s mother, Ms Sibongile Mahlangu, defaulted her son’s treatment in 2009 before she left him in the care of Ms Mashiyane.

He was born with the lump that keeps growing bigger.

Philani cannot sleep properly and it is often difficult for him to walk outside because children laugh or stare at him.

He is a Grade R pupil at the Tholukwazi Primary School.

Ms Mashiyane thanked the medical staff that helped her grandson during the check-up.

“They are all positive about Philani’s health and I can only pray for them and wish them all the best with the work they do.”
