Readers pour hearts out for Philani

eMbalenhle born with lump undergoes computed tomography (CT) scan at Witbank Hospital.

eMBALENHLE – Philani Mahlangu (5) received help from readers through the Ridge Time’s Aid2Kids on Friday, 14 February.

A reader from eMzinoni bought him a full school uniform, a pair of shoes and a bag.

Two readers from Secunda bought pyjamas, a face cloth and soap, toys, toothpaste, a towel, underwear, clothes, a lunch box and toiletries.

A businessman from Trichardt also gave a school uniform and toys on 17 February.

Philani was born with a big fluid-lump on the back of his head which keeps growing bigger.

His grandmother, Ms Lina Mashiyane (57), asked for the items when the Ridge Times helped her to take Philani for a check-up at the Trichardt Clinic and the Evander Hospital on 7 February.

He will undergo a computed tomography (CT) scan in Witbank Hospital on 24 February and will need food for the day, such as cool drink, fruit and bread.

Transport has been organised for the trip to the Witbank Hospital and he will be picked up at the Paulina Morapedi Clinic at 4.30am.

It was established that his mother, Ms Sibongile Mahlangu, defaulted her son’s treatment in 2009 before she left him in the care of Ms Mashiyane.

Philani is a Grade R pupil at Tholulwazi Primary School.

Ms Mashiyane expressed her gratitude and said: “Thank you for the great gifts.

“I truly appreciate the wonderful gestures that the readers have shown to my family.”
