Trailer loses planks

An overloaded trailer transporting wooden planks tipped over and dumped its load onto the sidewalk in Joubert Street on Friday night.

According to the driver of the truck, which was also heavily laden, he pulled over to sleep, after driving into town shortly after midnight on Friday.

The top-heavy load shifted due to the steep camber of the road surface.

This caused the trailer to sheer from its couplings and overturn.

Workers were still busy transferring the load onto a back-up vehicle late on Saturday evening.

Although heavy vehicles are not allowed to pass through the CBD, many drivers still persist in taking a short cut through town, especially after dark.
