Mpumalanga Premier hosts youth summit

More than 20 000 young people attend Mpumalanga Youth Summit in Secunda.

HIGHVELD – The Mpumalanga Government led by Mr David Mabuza, Premier, in partnership with the Department of Education, hosted a Provincial Youth Development Summit at the eMbalenhle Sasol Club on 29 April and the Lilian Ngoyi Stadium on 30 April.

Issues affecting young people’s lives, such as poverty, unemployment, crime, a lack of skills and substance abuse, were discussed.

The first session took place in the afternoon and was attended mainly by specifically identified and invited young leaders from various fields and disciplines whose main task is to share ideas among themselves and with subject experts in their respective fields that affect youth development prospects in the province.

This was facilitated in a conference style format.

The second session was a full day that was attended by about 20 000 young people from various districts in the province.

They had an opportunity to talk, interact and deliberate about matters affecting young people as guided by discussions on the previous day.

Young people were addressed by officials from of the Department of Education and other government stakeholders on issues affecting them daily.

This was an opportunity for Government officials to introduce and highlight some of its key youth development programmes and initiatives.

The outcomes of the summit were handed over to Mr Mabuza and he will look into them and incorporate them into youth development plans and programmes.
