Seven-year-old boy seriously burnt
“He was just laying there, with no movement at all,” she said.
Seven-year-old Thulani Shongwe’s normal boyhood activities were cut short after he sustained serious burn injuries on 5 August.
He was playing with a ball with his friend and eldest brother on Tembe Street in Ext 2 and the ball landed in an open transformer and he went to take it out.
He was exposed to electrical cables which caused a blackout in the area.
According to residents, the power was only fixed the following day.
Ms Thobile Shongwe, Thulani’s mother, said she found her son laying on the ground after the incident.
“He was just laying there, with no movement at all,” she said.
According to her, her eldest son informed her about the incident.
One of the neighbours, who is a paramedic, drove the seven-year-old to the Standerton Hospital.
“We called the ambulance, but it did not arrive because they were apparently attending to another incident,” Ms Shongwe said.
The boy was transferred to Witbank Hospital the same day.
