Municipal employees shut down offices

In the meantime, entrance to the municipal offices is chained and no services are rendered to the community.

Employees of Msukaligwa Local Municipality have completely shut down municipal offices at the Civic Centre and the Traffic Department in Ermelo over an unresolved payment dispute.

In what appears to be a checkmate move by the employees, all municipal departments have downed tools and members from the outside units, Chrissiesmeer, Breyten and others are also expected to follow suite.

The employees say they have had enough of the municipal management’s game regarding a variety of issues, however, the current burning issue is regarding the municipal task grade, which determines on which level a municipality is graded, as the level of grading has direct financial implications for everyone.

In 2010, Msukaligwa Municipality along with others in the district were graded and Msukaligwa was placed in task grade 4 category B level however employees salaries are still paid according to the old grading .

Employees have vouched to continue with the shut down until their demands are met.

In the meantime, entrance to the municipal offices is chained and no services are rendered to the community.
