Mayor coordinates the forming of LED forum

The LED forum will help to resolve current tender challenges in the area.

SECUNDA – Ms Flora Maboa-Boltman, Govan Mbeki Municipal executive mayor, met with various business forums on Friday, 28 February at the Lillian Ngoyi Centre.

The aim was to launch the Govan Mbeki Local Economic Development (LED).

Ms Maboa-Boltman said it is important that the forum is established so the municipality and the business sector can work collectively towards the growth of the local economy.

She said the municipality needs a new, creative vision to make the local economy grow so it can be counted on a global scale.

“Our key role as government is to create a conducive environment for businesses to thrive and to provide platforms for constructive engagement.

“We hope our partnership will soon help us to realise this dream.”

Mr Mmela Mahlangu, municipal manager, called on the business sector to unite and cooperate in the forming of this LED forum.

He said the forum will be a good platform for the business sector to address challenges with the municipality.

LED involves identifying and using local resources to create opportunities for economic growth and employment.

A successful LED depends on local partnerships, as well as on national and regional structures to promote and support local initiatives.

LED is usually strategically planned by local government in conjunction with public and private sector partners.

The forums were given seven days to submit the names of their suggested candidates.

The meeting was attended by members of the mayoral committe, municipal officials and about 14 forums.
