Voters urged to verify registration ahead of local government elections
Residents across Govan Mbeki Municipality are urged to verify their voter registration details, as changes to voting stations and ward boundaries could affect where they cast their ballots.
The IEC has announced two voter registration weekends ahead of the Local Government Elections taking place on November 4.
The first registration weekend will take place on June 20 and 21, while the second is scheduled for August 1 and 2.
Residents are urged to verify their voting station details, particularly as several changes have been made across Govan Mbeki Municipality.
According to the IEC, new voting stations have been created in some areas.
Residents within the boundaries of these newly established voting stations will be required to re-register manually, as registrations will not be transferred automatically.

In Secunda alone, these changes affect about 900 households. In other instances, entire voting districts have been moved to different wards.
Voters in these areas will be transferred automatically and do not need to re-register. The municipality has also gained a new ward.
Due to population growth, the IEC has established Ward 33 in Secunda. Voters are reminded that they may vote only at the voting station where they are registered.
Unlike the 2024 National and Provincial Elections, voters will not be able to apply for a Section 24 vote to cast their ballot in another area on election day.

The voters’ roll will close after the second registration weekend, after which no further registration changes will be permitted.
Residents can register or update their details at IEC offices, during the registration weekends, or through the IEC’s online registration portal.
Voters can also use the IEC Voting Station Finder to confirm where they need to vote.
Political parties across the country have intensified efforts to ensure supporters are correctly registered ahead of the elections.
Residents who are uncertain about their registration status or ward boundaries are encouraged to contact their local councillors or the IEC for assistance.
