Cerebral convention in the West Rand

It is the first time the West Rand has hosted the national conference and the theme is Cerebral Palsy through the lifespan.

The West Rand Association for the Physically Disabled is this year’s host for the Annual Cerebral Palsy Convention. The event is held at Silverstar Casino on the 5 and 6 May.

It is attended by delegates from all over the country including physiotherapists, speech therapists, audiologists and parents of people with cerebral palsy.

The two day event will have 14 guest speakers who will discuss a range of topics including treatment, rights and different life stages of people with cerebral palsy.

Cerebral palsy is the general term for a number of neurological conditions that affect movement and co-ordination.

It is caused by a problem in the parts of the brain responsible for controlling muscles.

The condition can occur if the brain develops abnormally or is damaged before, during or shortly after birth.
