Shortly before 7am this morning, 12 April, City Power acknowledged a power outage affecting several areas that are fed electricity from the Ontdekkers Substation.
Technicians were sent to investigate the cause of the outage and discovered that one of the 6.6kV breakers had blown up, causing extensive damage to the feeder board. Unfortunately, the extent of the damage is severe, and City Power was forced to isolate the entire substation to ensure repairs could be done safely and efficiently.
A magnitude of work needs to be done, including replacing the breaker, conducting tests, and a dry-ice clean-up. This means that the earliest estimated time of restoration (ETR) is currently anticipated for between late this evening (Monday, 12 April) and early tomorrow morning (Tuesday, 13 April).
This outage is currently affecting the following areas:
• Discovery
• Horison
• Honey Hills
• Ontdekkers Park
• Roodepoort North
• Georgina
• Horizon View
City Power spokesperson, Isaac Mangena, concluded his statement by apologising for any inconvenience caused to residents and businesses.
Should more information be forthcoming with regards to the ETR and progress with repairs, the Record will publish an update.
