Cable theft has resulted in power outages at the Christiaan de Wet substation and affected several of the surrounding areas. According to a statement by City Power, on July 13 four cables still needed to be replaced. Residents have been complaining about going as long as six hours without electricity, however, an estimated time or readiness has not been established.
Sol Masolo from City power said, “it’s a bit difficult to go into some areas but we have sent a team to assess the situation and start working when it is safe to do so. We are still working on the number of cables affected and we are struggling to get into some communities.”
Ward 97 Councillor, Leah Knott said repairs were made but some of the cables were not joined correctly, “There is a team currently working at the Wilgeheuwel substation. They are addressing the cable in Van Staden and Hoëveld Roads which is affecting supply to parts of Wilgeheuwel, Willowbrook and Ruimsig ”
