Roodepoort schools and learners were among the top performers who were honoured on Friday, February 3 at the Johannesburg West District Matric Awards Ceremony that was held at Hoërskool Roodepoort.

The matric class of 2022 was referred to as the cream of the crop as they have made the district proud and put their schools on the map.
As they made their grand entrance the learners were met with cheers of jubilation from a proud district that secured position three nationally and position one in the province.

The district presented 6 350 learners for the 2022 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations from 47 secondary schools; 13 schools of which were independent.
The district obtained a pass rate of 89.74% with an increase of 3,14% recorded. 3112 (54.55%) of learners obtained a Bachelor’s pass rate and will therefore be able to access universities.
Hoërskool Florida was one of six schools that obtained a 100 percent pass rate and received district awards for the “Top Achieving Town School” based on passing rate, the “Excellence School Award” based on the quality results, and the “Overall Excellence School Award” based on overall results.
On the day 25 staff members received awards for best average in their respective field of study in the district.
Curro Academy Wilgeheuwel Independent School congratulated their high school teachers Nikita Bowes and Abdulmugheeth Petersen who earned awards as the Top English Home Language teachers in the district.
Neo Chala joined the dedicated team of educators as being announced the Top Computer Application Technology (CAT) teacher in the district while matric learner Jaden Manilall was announced as the Top CAT learner in the district.
Tulip Combined School Principal Mr Mthimkhulu said that he was proud of their top learner in the district for IsiZulu First Additional Language Zameka Zakwe who obtained 93% in the 2022 matric exam.
“As a school, we pride ourselves in Zameka’s achievement, it all comes from the hard work and dedication towards her school work. Being the top learner in Johannesburg West District means a lot to the school and we are also thankful to the teacher, Ms Ngcobo, who guided her towards this achievement,” said Mthimkhulu.
According to the Johannesburg West District, the resounding success of the district can be attributed to teamwork, tenacity, and resilience as well as the principals, Grade 12 educators, learners, parents, district officials, and all the stakeholders collectively contributed to the results.
