LIFCO hosts empowering workshop for domestic workers

A Domestic Watch Training session makes a difference in the lives of domestic workers, equipping them with vital safety and security tips.

A Domestic Watch Training Event, hosted by Little Falls and Strubens Valley Resident’s Association (LIFCO), invited domestic workers to be educated on safety precautions at the Strubens Valley Library on August 29.

According to LIFCO chairperson Claire Faucet, the event welcomed the Honeydew Community Police Forum (CPF) and Honeydew Police officers to educate domestic workers on vital safety and security measures.

The engaging session, led by Warrant Officer Makhura, Constable Mabotje and Warrant Officer Molly Ramukhosi from the Honeydew Police Station, focused on ensuring the well-being of domestic workers while commuting to and from work, as well as the residential home environment.

The event received overwhelmingly positive feedback from attendees, who felt empowered and informed with valuable information to enhance their safety and well-being.

LIFCO’s safety and security executive member Sipho Mabusela, and local security company representatives from the West Rand Reaction Unit, Beagle Watch Armed Response and EC Security were also in attendance to give insightful tips and offer their services.

“We are so thankful to our local security companies for always being so actively involved in the community. We hope that this event can bring more domestic workers to learn about safety.

“It’s important to educate them about such things, especially in situations where there are house break-ins, so they can know who to call and what measures to take,” Claire said.

Additionally, LIFCO distributed complimentary high-visibility Vizi Belts, generously sponsored by Johnson Workwear at Kwena Square, to each domestic worker. These belts aim to increase pedestrian visibility during early mornings and late evenings, reducing accidents and fatalities.
