Women’s bowling fun day a hit

Leases Bowling Club hosted a ladies' fun day under the theme Back to School.

The Leases Bowling Club in Georginia was full of learners, principals and teachers when the club hosted their ladies’ fun event under the theme Back to School.

Women from clubs like Florida North, Randfontein, Krugersdorp, Randburg, Witpoortjie, and Honeydew, showed up dressed in school uniforms with excitement and laughter filling the atmosphere.

There were 88 women in total, and it was graced by stalwarts in the industry, including both current and former Protea players like Bridgette Calitz and Nici Neal.

According to club president Karen Gerber, each club hosts this every month, and they invite each other under a certain theme for fundraising purposes.

“This is more of a social event than a competition, and we host it during the week to get the ‘old ladies’ to get together, get to know each other, and have fun. We serve breakfast and lunch, and we spend the day together,” she said.

Karen also mentioned that the Back to School theme is inspired by some of the women who are from other countries and have never worn a school uniform before.

Leases is a small bowling club that was formed in 1974 (known as the Roodepoort Bowling Club), but in 2007 Rand Leases merged with the Roodepoort Bowling Club. This club is best known for producing quality players who have earned their provincial colours and currently has 12 provincial players.

“We have a lovely big hall and facilities, and we welcome the community to contact us if they need to make use of our facilities at an affordable price. Moreover, we would love to see schoolchildren joining us on the bowling greens,” she added.
