Run or walk for mental health at Florida Lake Park this weekend

The Infiniti Mlezi Foundation will host a morning of healing and fitness in honour of award-winning author Tshidiso Moletsane.

The Infiniti Mlezi Foundation is inviting community members to its first annual ‘Your story is not over’ run/ walk event set to take place on Saturday, May 23, at Florida Lake.

Founded by Lerato Moletsane, the foundation was established in memory of her late son Tshidiso Moletsane, and aims to create safe spaces and meaningful support for people facing mental health challenges, particularly men and LGBTQIA+ individuals who may feel isolated or unheard.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the event, Lerato said the name ‘Your story is not over’ was born from a desire to encourage people struggling with depression, mental health challenges, and suicidal thoughts to seek help and continue choosing life.

“This event is inspired by people, including my son, who battled mental health challenges and suicidal thoughts. We will keep talking, and Tshidiso will share his story. He may not be around anymore, but his story continues into infinity. And for those who are thinking of ending it all, it encourages, and it aims to inspire their will to live – because their story is not over,” she said.

The event will officially launch the foundation through a morning focused on wellness, healing, and community connection.
Activities will include a fun run or walk of 3km or 8km, aerobics, yoga sessions, and a psychological wellness presentation by Dignified Psychological Services. Attendees can also look forward to winning prizes on the day.

Copies of Junx, Tshidiso’s award-winning debut novel, will be available for purchase, with two lucky attendees standing a chance to win copies during the event.

Tshidiso was widely celebrated as one of South Africa’s most distinctive literary voices. Junx won the prestigious 2022 Sunday Times Fiction Prize and was praised for its bold, humorous, and deeply honest exploration of mental health and the experiences of young black South Africans navigating life in Johannesburg. This novel has since been translated into Italian and is also studied as part of English Literature at the University of Johannesburg.

Following his passing in May 2024, Tshidiso’s legacy continues through his writing and through the work of the foundation created in his honour. His emotive short story, Immortal, was posthumously published in the anthology One Life.

Lerato says the foundation hopes to make this event an annual wellness event that keeps conversations around mental health alive while inspiring hope and resilience within communities.

The fun run will start at 08:00, and tickets are available at www.peaktiming.co.za or contact 010 210 7262 for more information.
