Union gives thanks to domestic workers
JOBURG - UJW’s domestic worker’s appreciation tea.
With August being the month of women, there was much excitement when the Union of Jewish Women invited 80 domestic workers to a fun-filled and informative morning.
The event included a CPR demonstration, a talk by an expert on ‘How to save your salary effectively’, a baking demonstration, and great tips by a security company on safety and security.
Two professional musicians entertained the crowd with many traditional ‘township numbers’, and a wonderful rendition of ‘Pata Pata’ had the enthusiastic guests singing and dancing in the aisles.
The excitement was palpable when lucky ticket numbers were drawn, and happy winners went home with prizes ranging from electrical appliances to cellphones, including a Blackberry generously donated by GAP Security.
The morning ended with a scrumptious tea, and each guest received a goody bag filled with gifts.
“Due to the enthusiastic response by both the employers and their employees, the ‘thank you’ function for the men and women – who so ably look after our homes, our children and our gardens – will become an annual event hosted by the Union of Jewish Women,” said the union’s Lynne Raphaely.
