A tall tale
PARKHURST- Motorists are warned to be aware of a young boy who is frequently at the intersection of Jan Smuts and Bompas roads.

According to numerous motorists the young boy is sometimes dressed as a young girl and approaches motorists with a sad tale.
“He approaches cars at the intersection looking very traumatised and tearful, and tells a story about how he was being beaten by his father and is trying to get to his grandmother in Mpumalanga,” said an anonymous member of the Parkhurst Facebook group.
“He knocks the car if you do not help him. I have been ‘caught’ by him before, late at night, and he is very convincing and the story is heart-wrenching. He is frequently at this intersection.”
Other motorists shared the same experiences on Facebook,
“Yep saw him at the Dunkeld corner Jan Smuts. Same story with tears. Banging on windows for attention. When I refused to help he was aggressive and cursed me,” said an anonymous Facebook user.
Parkview police did not want to comment because the law states that begging is not a criminal offence and is categorised as a bylaw infringement. Metro police had yet to comment.
