Facebook chat about bipolar disorder

JOBURG - THE South African Depression and Anxiety Group is inviting residents to join its free Bipolar Facebook Friday online chat on 29 May.

This follows the commemoration of National Bipolar Awareness Day on 26 May, and will see local psychiatrists host Living with Bipolar chats with members of the public.

Meryl Da Costa, press liaison officer of the group, said the two talks would take place with experts Dr Jaco du Toit and Dr Antoinette Miric at 1pm and 7pm respectively.

“These experts will be answering questions on what medication people take and why, what the treatment entails, how to help a loved one and self-help tips,” said Da Costa.

She added that the group would also host various activities across South Africa during the month to help create awareness and educate those affected by the illness. A talk in Johannesburg will take place in Parktown on 2 June at 7.30pm at the Parkhurst Recreation Centre.

To join the chat, log in on www.sadag.org or go to the group’s Facebook Page: The South African Depression and Anxiety Group.

Details: Visit www.sadag.org for information, dates and venues of the groups near you, or contact the group on their helpline 0800 21 22 23.
